Notepad ++

Notepad++ is a free source code editor (and Notepad replacement), which supports several programming languages, running under the MS Windows environment. This project, based on the Scintilla edit component (a very powerful editor component), written in C++ with pure win32 api and STL (that ensures the higher execution speed and smaller size of the program), is under the GPL Licence. This project is mature. However, as you can see it’s a one-man-project, there are still some bugs and missing features. If you have any question or suggestion about this project, please post them on the forums. As well, if you have any feature requests, you can always make the demand, but there’s no guarantee that I’ll implement it.

Yet another Notepad replacement… What’s this? The original Notepad shipped with Windows is probably the handiest program of all times, small, fast, without frills! Notepad2 tries to follow this principle, it’s a small, fast and free text editor with syntax highlighting for HTML and other common languages.

Metapad

Metapad is a small, fast (and completely free) text editor for Windows 9x and Windows NT (2000) with similar features to Microsoft Notepad but with many extra (and rather useful) features. It was designed to completely replace Notepad since it includes (just about) all of Notepad’s features and much, much more. Metapad is freeware and is freely distributable in its unmodified zip file. The author, Alexander Davidson, says he cannot be held responsible for any problems encountered while using this software. TrustMeher Comments :- If you are looking for a better solution than Notepad for editing your HTML code, this little utility Metapad is here. It is just wonderful, with a number of features like find and replace, highlighting of URL’s etc. If you know how to do things, this is better solution than the advanced HTML editors. But for real Code Highlighting etc select any other advance HTML / PHP / ASP editor like Notepad ++

Free Notepad Replacement. There are lots of text editors and Notepad replacements. Some of these aspire to be programming editors while others try to be word processors. What I love about EditPad is that, unlike the others, it concentrates on simply being a better plain text editor and it succeeds brilliantly. It has a Notepad like interface combined with tabbed document windows and the ability to open as many documents as you like with no file size limitations. I use it every day for tasks as diverse as writing Support Alert Newsletter to examining my web log files. Some of the latter can be up to 100MB, yet EditPad handles these huge files with ease.

TextShield

TextShield is a free word processor, with a wealth of usable features. Despite being only a fraction of the size of his heavy counterparts, TextShield supports all Word 2000 formatting features. TextShield supports basic word processor functionality, like spell checking, print previewing and undo/redo. But it has also more advanced features, like compression on files.
