YAMAN RAGA

Yaman, also known as Aiman or Kalyan, is a Hindustani classical raga. A close related raga Yaman-Kalyan is pronounced as “Imone Kolyan” in Bengal.
Origin
The raga emerges from Kalyan thaat.
Aaroh, Avroh and Pakad
Arohana : Ni Re Ga Ma# Dha Ni Sa.
Avarohana : Sa Ni Dha Pa Ma# Ga Re Sa.
Pakad : Ni* Re Ga Ma# Pa, Ma# Ga Re Sa.
Vadi and Samvadi
Vadi : Ga
Samvadi : Ni

Singing Time
The raga is to be sung during the first quarter of the night (pratham prahar).
The raga is of Sampurna-sampurna nature, i.e, both it’s arohana (ascent) and avarohana (descent) uses all the seven notes. Only Teevra swara (note) is Ma (hence represented as Ma# below), all other swaras are shuddha.
Yaman is supposed to be one of the most fundamental ragas in Hindusthani Classical music. It is usually one of the first ragas taught to the serious classical music student.
