PANDIT BHASKARBUWA BAKHALE
Bhaskar Raghunath Bakhale (1869 – 1922) was a Hindustani singer. Judging by the diverse sources from whom he learned, he may be considered the most complete Hindustani Classical Singer, and the fame he had attained would justify the lofty billing.
Bhaskarrao Bakhale was a member of Kirloskar Natak Mandali and had acted the female role of Manthara in the drama Ram-Rajya-Viyog. He and his friend Govindrao Tembe composed music for Bal Gandharva’s dramas: Manapman and Swayamwar. Bakhale’s compositions in Swayamvar are famous more than 80 years after the drama was first performed. He wasn’t particularly devoted to teaching and had a rather crude method of teaching. But he taught Bapurao Ketkar, Master Krishnarao, [[Bal Gandharva], Harishchandra Bali Shaila Datar, married to Bakhale’s grandson Sudhir, has written a book which covers Buwa’s life comprehensively.
